Students from Wallan Secondary College were treated to a performance of 'Romeo and Juliet: Rewind' and 'Shakespeare is Dead!' from the Bell Shakespeare Players yesterday.
As part of the Regional Teacher Mentorship and Crown Partnership, students were able to watch two performances free of charge. The program allows access for students to view a professional performance they might not be able to see otherwise.
The response from the Year 7 cohort particularly was excellent and all of the students thoroughly enjoyed the performances from the three actors. The players have now finished their eight-month tour of Australia, making their performances in Wallan one of their last.
Miss Clarke thanked all the performers on behalf of the school before the students gave a loud round of applause for the actors once again. The actors then offered to have a Q and A session with each of the Year 7, 9 and 10 cohort to discuss why it is important to still study Shakespeare and his works.
Miss Clarke is hopeful that the student's enthusiasm will encourage a Drama Program at the College for the Middle School (9-10) and Senior School (11-10) years in the near future.
