Planning Future Success

Saturday, 13 April 2013 Posted in From the Principal's Desk

It gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of our new Assistant Principal to Wallan Secondary College. Ms Sally Lasslett, coming to us from Essendon Keilor College – Senior Campus, will commence at the beginning of 2013. Ms Lasslett was the successful applicant in a rigorous selection process; we are looking forward to her joining the Wallan Secondary College family. Welcome, Ms Lasslett. Final staffing arrangements for 2013 and some staff farewells will be included in the final newsletter for 2013. It will appear on our website on Thursday, December 20.

Congratulations go to all our students on successful completion of Year 7 to 11 exams. The vast majority of students were prepared and ready to meet the challenge of VCE style exam assessments. They are commended for their efforts; training for the VCE exams can never start too soon. Some of our younger students did find the length of exams a particular issue and the hot weather towards the end of the week was an additional challenge. However, I must commend our Year 7 students in particular, whose cooperation and concentration levels were excellent.

The 'Step-Up' period has now begun. This week we started our 2013 timetabled classes; this is being well received by students and staff. It is especially exciting for Year 10s commencing the VCE and Year 11s going into Year 12, as well as students who have been accepted into our growing VCAL program. Year 10s and 11s finish school today, December 7, and Year 7, 8 and 9 continue their 'Step-Up' til the end of next week. (Year 9s are not required at school on Tuesday, December 11). Next week ends with a Staff v Junior Students Cricket Match on Friday, December 14.

Finally I would like to thank the 340 people who attended the 2012 Valedictory Dinner at the Plenty Ranges Arts & Convention Centre. The evening was a joyful celebration of our students and their achievements. My thanks go to all staff in attendance, to the College Captains, (in particular our Valedictorian, Miss Katelyn Scott), to Ms Heather Sadler, Mr
Brian Howley and to all who participated. It was a great night!

I look forward to seeing everyone at Presentation Night on December 18.

Wendy Caramarco

Principal
