Knit For Charity is on for 2014!

It's that time of year again, when Wallan turns it's coldest, our hearts reach out to those who are less fortunate than us through the Knit for Charity Program, now in it's second year.

For those new to Wallan Secondary College community, the Year 9 Textiles elective classes choose a charity they would like to support by hand knitting items for those in need. Last year was our first year running this initiative, which saw not only the Year 9s knit up a storm, but also all other year levels who attended the Knit for Charity lunchtime activity, and the wider college community of parents and friends. Collectively we knitted an amazing 350 squares to be made into blankets for the charity KAS Care. This charity supports children in South Africa who have been orphaned by AIDS, or have the disease themselves.

This year the Year 9s have chosen the Victorian based charity Knit One Give One or KOGO. This charity distributes hand knitted items to Victorians in need, such as disadvantaged new mums, bush fire victims, and the homeless. The variety of items you can contribute include scarves, clothing, children's toys and accessories such as beanies. Or, if you would like, you can submit squares which will contribute to our very own Wallan Secondary College blanket.

For you crocheters out there, you're welcome to contribute as well!!! For more information about the charity or for a list of patterns visit their website at knitonegiveone.org

As usual, the Knit for Charity program wouldn't be able to run if it wasn't supported by the generous donations of crochet hooks, knitting needles and yarn, so if you have some to spare, keep it rolling in by dropping it off at the Administration Office.

If you are going to knit along, be sure to regularly check the websites for updates!

Happy knitting!
