Luke Atkins
Luke Atkins is one of Australia’s leading obstacle endurance athletes. In 2012 and 2013 Luke finished 14th at the Tough Mudder World Championships, a 24 hour race held in the USA in which he completed more than 300 obstacles and 120km. He is also a member of the Under Armour Australia Team for Obstacle Racing.
Luke has studied for many years and has worked in the education and fitness industry since leaving high school. He currently is the General Manager of Hall’s Taekwondo and is a 6th Dan Head Instructor. Luke holds a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Biochemistry and Pathology, Diploma of Secondary Education, Certificate 2, 4 and Diploma in Sports Coaching and Cert 3 and 4 in Sport.
His motivational presentation, which likened his Tough Mudder experiences to that of Year 12, really connected with our students. He spoke of the recurring themes of leadership and teamwork, goal setting, commitment, resilience and determination. His most potent message being do what you love and the fear of failure – “The magnitude of our success is proportional to the magnitude of possible failure. We fear because the success we seek is important to us, fear is a necessary motivator, learn to harness it.”
Our students were enthralled with Luke’s account of his Tough Mudder experience. In July, Luke will participate in the Gobi March, which is 250-kilometre long self-supported footrace that takes place over seven days in Mongolia.
The Staff and Students of WSC wish to thank Luke for his time and wish Luke well in his endeavour to complete the Gobi March race.
